Candidates across the political spectrum are meeting twice this week to confront their adversaries and share on a public stage, their vision for Europe. So, what did they have to say about the state of the EU economy, and what are their priorities for the next mandate? In the latest episode of Today in the EU, we sat down with Euractiv’s Economy Reporter, Thomas Moller-Nielsen, who attended the debate.

A brief look at Today's episode:

  • During the recent Bruegel debate, candidates from across the political spectrum discussed topics such as competitiveness, EU-China relations, and the EU budget.
  • While there was some agreement on the need to further integrate the single market and liberalize capital flows, there were also disagreements on issues such as state-led industrial policy and conditioning subsidies on member states' reforms.
  • The debate highlighted the different priorities and strategies of the candidates as they vie for support ahead of the elections.
